About me
Dr. Janeen Perry-Campbell is the Director for Student and Educator Engagement in the Office of Equity Affairs, and education truly runs in her blood! With a family legacy of educators, it’s no surprise she’s spent over 15 years shaping young minds. Janeen’s teaching journey began in high school classrooms, where she taught AP Biology, Chemistry, Robotics, and Physics. She’s also been a Master STEM teacher at Old Dominion University, training future educators, and an adjunct professor at James Madison University, teaching Adult Learning Theories.
After transitioning to administration in Portsmouth Public Schools, Janeen served as a middle school Assistant Principal and later as Principal at the elementary school she once attended! She then stepped into the role of inaugural Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, where her passion for creating inclusive spaces truly flourished.
Janeen holds degrees from Old Dominion University (B.S. in Biology, Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction), Virginia State University (Master of Education), and Capella University (MBA). Her research dives deep into the disciplinary outcomes for Black girls, and she’s shared her findings at national and international conferences.
When she’s not advocating for equity in education, she is traveling the world and active with her sorority, Western Wake Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Janeen is a proud mom to Nia and Zoe (a science teacher!) and a loving dog mom to Ivy Coco. Fun, driven, and passionate, Dr. Perry-Campbell continues to inspire change in education, one student and teacher at a time.
